Chapter News

Pikes Peak PAHCOM raises funds each year for the Colorado Springs Empty Stocking Fund at our annual holiday auction. This is an event that PP-PAHCOM members and corporate sponsors have participated in for many years. Once again, our sponsors were engaged with donating auction items and bidding for them as well. There were many great items put up for auction to raise money, such as traditional Christmas gifts and decorations, and even some special skin care products donated by one of our dermatology members! A special thanks to Colorado Hi-Tech Solutions for once again matching the funds raised, which brought the total Pikes Peak PAHCOM contribution to $7500!

Pikes Peak PAHCOM was privileged in November to have an important National Speaker, Denny Flint, to present on MACRA/MIPS - WHERE ARE WE GOING & WHAT DOES YOUR QRUR REPORT MEAN TO YOUR PRACTICE Denny provided the membership with expertise in understanding changes in the MACRA 2018 Proposed Rule and how one may be exempt from MIPS reporting. He reminded everyone that they only need to meet one measure for 2017 to avoid penalties in 2019 and there is still time meet the requirement. One of the keys in future Value-Based Reimbursement is looking at the practice’s quality report card from Medicare…. QRUR (Quality & Resource Use Report) in analyzing quality data for the future. This report also include claims data and practices should be reporting HCC Codes and comorbidities. Sandra provided a brief demonstration accessing the steps to obtain the QRUR, as this is a detailed approach from the CMS Enterprise portal. Pikes Peak PAHCOM Members can look forward to another year of great education in 2018: The first six months of education session are listed below: January – Value-Based Contracting/Contracting Organization Tips February – OSHA Update 2018 March – UCHealth - Memorial Hospital -- Education Event April – Education Collaborative May – Colorado Payer Day 2018 June – HR Update 2018

11/01/2017 - PIKES PEAK PAHCOM MEDICAL MANAGER OF THE YEAR 2017 STORY – Making History at Pikes Peak PAHCOM
The Pikes Peak PAHCOM Medical Manager of the Year, inaugural year (2014) was the first time PP-PAHCOM awarded a Medical Manager of the Year Award. Stephen Johanns, CMM, HITCM-PP, a Past Chapter VP and the 2011 National PAHCOM Medical Manager of the Year was given the task to develop criteria that has become the standard guidelines used in determining the Pikes Peak PAHCOM Medical Manager of the Year. He included the 7 traits that a Pikes Peak PAHCOM Medical Manager of the Year must have: • Integrity • Independence • Confidence • Decorum • Relevance • Courage • Commitment He presented that inaugural year award to Debbie Carlson, CMM, Practice Manager, Colorado Springs OB-GYN (now with Matthews-Vu Medical Group). Debbie served as a PP-PAHCOM Chapter Board Member for 14 years. We will never forget her countless hours of dedication to our chapter and being the FIRST PPP-MMOTY 2014! In 2015, we had three MMOTY Nominees: 1. Melanie Kinlaw, CMM, Practice Manager for Mountain View Medical Group - Monument Pediatrics 2. Louise Girard, CMM, HITCM-PP, Practice Manager for Dr. Brady 3. Tracie Broome, CMM, Practice Manager for Colorado Springs Neurological Associates Tracie Broome, CMM, Practice Manager, 2015 Pikes Peak PAHCOM Medical Manager of the Year. Tracie's team told us that she leads by being the finest example of true professionalism and she is an extraordinary role model. Her staff are privileged to work alongside her every day. One of her physicians stated that Tracie has been integral to the success of the practice and clearly states in black and white, we physicians are replaceable, she is not! In 2015, Tracie asked me to send the below note to the chapter membership. Some may recall this note but I think it is important for all of us to hear this again: It touched me then and again when I was preparing this year’s event outline. She writes ....... I wanted to thank you for the wonderful event on Thursday evening when you surprised and then honored me with the 2015 Medical Manager of the Year award. I will remember that night the rest of my life! I know how much effort it took to plan the meeting and I was truly touched when some of my family members were also invited to attend. Thanks for making it so special. It is a privilege to be a part of such a professional and caring group of people. As I mentioned on Thursday evening, we all have such challenging jobs these days and it is so nice to know that we have colleagues who understand these challenges and are always there to help out and support one another when the times get tough. I truly hope each and every one of you get recognized for the hard work you do. I know many times it is a thankless job. It takes dedication, loyalty and perseverance to meet the challenges of running a medical practice during these changing times and you are all an inspiration to me. I am honored to call you my friends. Thank you again! With warmest regards,Tracie Broome, CMM, 2015 Pikes Peak PAHCOM Medical Manager of the Year In 2016, there were two PP-PAHCOM Medial Manager nominees of the year: Debbie Adams, CMM, Office Manager, Dr. Laura Feldman’s Office. Dr. Feldman said she was grateful for Debbie’s participation in PAHCOM and what she brought back to us, preparing us for future changes…. Lori Trivelli, CMM, Practice Manager, Age Well Medical Associates was nominated by Judy Boesen who said that Lori has been a vital member of the PAHCOM Executive Team. She is always ready to take on a new task with grace and a smile. She greets her patients with a smile and her office is in the middle of the hallway, not hidden in the back somewhere, so patients can peak their head in and say hello. Her door is always open.... She has been a vital member of the PAHCOM Executive Team. Lori has served as the Treasurer of the Pikes Peak PAHCOM since the beginning of PP-PAHCOM. Lori Trivelli, CMM was the 2016 Pikes Peak PAHCOM Medical Manager of the Year and said “WE” are all medial managers of the year! That piece of PP-PAHCOM history brings us to the current year .......... 2017! All current Pikes Peak PAHCOM Members, including those that serve on the Executive Committee, (except the President) are eligible to be nominated and can nominate. Physicians, PAHCOM Peers and Sponsors can nominate. Once the nominations were received and information was gathered about each nominee, a ballot (new in 2017) was put out to all the membership (including the members of the executive committee) for a limited time to vote. We received two amazing nominations!!! Each of these nominees should feel honored and take this nomination with them for the rest of their working career. It is such a special privilege and great honor to be nominated!!!! I know that from being nominated at the national level, not once but twice in three years. We are proud to have each of these nominees in our "PAHCOM FAMILY" and "Medical" Communities. THE 2017 PPP-MMOTY NOMINEES ARE .................................... Val Chavez, CMM, Practice Administrator, Women’s Associates & Jana Sodic, Practice Administrator, Eye Associates of Colorado Springs Congratulations to both nominees on your nomination for PPP-MMOTY 2017! Val has two beautiful daughters, two son-in-laws and two grandchildren. Val and her husband Dave spend some of their free-time in Arizona. Her nomination comes from Mike Chacho, Legacy Human Resources (PP-PAHCOM Sponsor)… "I would like to take a minute and nominate Val Chavez, Practice Administrator of Women’s Associates for Practice Manager of the Year within the Pikes Peak Chapter. As you know I have been working with Val closely over the last year and have come to know her both on a personal and professional level. I have found that she walks the tightrope of taking care of her staff while maximizing profitability for the docs very well. " Thank you to all the previous Pikes Peak PAHCOM MMOTY recipients and most currently Lori Trivelli, CMM for honorably serving as the 2016 Pikes Peak PAHCOM Medical Manager of the Year! Lori informed the nominees about how important is was to be nominated and what it has meant to her to be the 2016 PP-PAHCOM MMOTY. Something she will always have to remember! She was given the privilege to announce the 2017 PP-PAHCOM MMOTY. The Envelope Please...... CONGRATULATIONS... VALERIE (VAL) CHAVEZ, CMM -- 2017 Pikes Peak PAHCOM Medical Manager of the Year!
