Picnic in the Park with Annie Moats

A warm, sunny day, a slight breeze, clear blue skies, and a picnic lunch shaded by decades-old pine and deciduous trees...who could ask for anything more in the Colorado Rockies? Well, Pikes Peak PAHCOM could...so we invited Annie Moats of PCH Training to join us for our annual, summertime Picnic in the Park Lunch 'n Learn.

Almost twenty members, including Carol Walker, CEO of the El Paso County Medical Society, enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and Annie's presentation on dealing with employees' unrealistic attitudes of entitlement. Annie deftly reminded us that the problem lies less with the employee's expectations, but rather with the lack of policy in our offices surrounding those areas of expectations. In a paradigm shift for a lot of us from when we first arrived that noon day, Annie stated that a well-written, well-placed policy defines our expectations and would thus limit the unrealistic expectations of our employees. Annie continued by saying that the appearance of an uncompassionate employer can be mitigated by making occasional exceptions to the policy, as circumstances dictate, for exceptional employees. Remember, Annie says, that you must treat all employees fairly, not necessarily equally. Good words of wisdom to live by, indeed. Thank you, Annie Moats......you...you complete us!

P.S. This writer now has two more policies in place!
