Pam Lewis 2016 Medical Manager of the Year!

Congratulations to Kathryn Eiler, CMM, HITCM-PP

Kathryn Eiler -CMM 2017 Medical Manager of the Year!

Hearing your name called in the same sentence as Medical Manager of the Year is especially humbling when you are nominated with such talented and dedicated managers. I want you to know I am honored to be the 2017 Medical Manager of The Year.

When I think about this award I am reminded by something I heard a very long time ago about PAHCOM, and PAHCOM managers. While I was working in a physician network, our Director was an MBA and a CMM. She was responsible for an entire network of about 35 or 40 medical managers and we were at a network managers meeting. There were many changes on the horizon and it was very important for all us to be at the top of our game. It was early Spring in 2001 and the HIPPA Privacy Rule was about to become mandatory. It was important we understood what was required of us. After the meeting, she told me how proud she was of her PAHCOM mangers. She said,"When I look out at that room my CMMs stand out like twinkling stars! I can count on you to be the leaders, to be state of the art, to help other managers understand."

When I stood there the other night I was reminded of that moment in 2001, reminded that PAHCOM managers are leaders. We do stand out from our peers, we have direction and purpose. We have careers, not jobs. We love what we do, we are eager to learn new things, and accept new challenges. We are eager to share our knowledge, eager to lend a hand, take time to answer a question, or help a fellow manager solve a problem or find an answer.

This year is a very special year for PAHCOM, our CMM credential has become Nationally recognized! I'd like to challenge all of you to celebrate with us by reaching out to a fellow manager and encouraging them to take the CMM exam. There are many managers, even some of our own members who have been with us for years but they have never taken the exam. Reach out, and encourage a fellow manager to become certified. Challenge someone you know to step outside their comfort zone and become certified. Being a part of this wonderful organization changed my life, but getting my CMM changed the course of my life. That Certification gave me "Ruby Slippers" to do my job and opened doors to opportunities I am sure I might never have had.

I am very honored to be a part of this organization and thankful to have met all of you, to have journeyed through my career with all of you. Together let's make this year an opportunity for everyone to have Ruby Slippers! If you've been thinking about taking the exam this is the year to do it, sign up, reach out and challenge yourself, you never know where it will take you!
