"Good Leaders make people feel that they're at the very heart of things, not at the periphery. Everyone feels that he or she makes a difference to the success of the organization. When that happens, people feel centered and that gives their work meaning."

DOL New Overtime Rules: Who's Exempt & Who's Not
Carol & Frank Morsani Center for Advanced Healthcare
13330 USF Laurel Drive
Tampa, FL 33612
Conference Rooms: 1013A & 1013B

On May 18th the Department of Labor issued a new rule that updates the regulations determining which white-collar, salaried employees are entitled to the Fair Labor Standards Act's minimum wage and overtime pay protections.
The final rule will:
• Raise the salary threshold indicating eligibility from $455/week to $913 ($47,476 per year).
• Automatically update the salary threshold every three years, based on wage growth over time, increasing predictability.
• Strengthen overtime protections for salaried workers already entitled to overtime.
• Provide greater clarity for workers and employers.
The final rule will become effective on December 1, 2016, giving employers more than six months to prepare.

Where’s Waldo: Providing a Road Map for Top Talent to Your Organization

Managers lose a key member of their team, and the first thing they do is rush to find a body to fill the seat. Through our interactive program, we will explore the never ending candidate pipeline, behavioral interviewing for successful selection and testing and evaluation techniques that can ensure success. Finally, we’ll provide tools to evaluate the reasons team member leave your organization, and how to keep it from happening in the future.

Short: Recruiting them Right - Retain them forever! - Recruiting may be the single most important function of an organization that depends on people to deliver their product or service. How Expanding Roles for NPs and PAs Are Impacting Reimbursement and Delegation in Medical Offices

The Affordable Care Act and recent state law changes have resulted in broader scopes of practice for nurse practitioners and physician assistants. For example, an increasing number of states permit nurse practitioners to practice independently, with no collaboration agreement with an overseeing physician. This presentation will explain the key changes in federal and state laws, and how these changes are impacting reimbursement of NPs, PAs, and other non-physician practitioners. The legal scope of practice for medical assistants, licensed practical/vocational nurses, and registered nurses who work under non-physician practitioners will also be presented and discussed.

Collecting from Patients | The Human Component

Patient responsibility is on the rise and cost of maintaining the same billing and collection strategies will cost practices revenue. In this presentation we share tips and techniques for improving time of service collections, but also discuss steps to take before and after the patient's appointment to improve their billing experience and the practice's revenue. We also discuss why many people are not comfortable asking patients for money, how to change their mindset, and how to be confident but kind to avoid the $5 payment trap. The goal of the presentation is provide the audience with actionable steps to improve the patient experience, and keep them coming back with payment.

Essential Financial Metrics for Practice Profitability

The old adage “you can’t manage what you can’t measure” is the premise behind this presentation. Operations management is the key to running a successful practice, but a manager must first be armed with data in order to better understand the business as it currently stands. Between the day-to-day management of your practice and trying to attract patients, chances are that you do not review the financial aspects of your practice as frequently as you should.

Financial metrics should encompass many avenues and managers must take a measured approach to the future of their practice. Understanding and reviewing a few basic financial metrics can help you to gain more insight into the financial health of your practice and spot problems before they become too severe.

In addition to revenue-related items, managers must understand expenses. A good manager intimately knowledgeable of overhead and understand each component as a percentage of collections or revenue. One of the most common problems that many practice managers encounter in analyzing financial data is that it can often seem like complicated formulas. Once you develop a basic understanding of those numbers, you will come to realize that it is actually fairly straightforward.

What Patients Fear and Why We Have to Know

Healthcare faces challenges like never before, causing us to think about the delivery of healthcare like never before. We are in a climate that calls for thinking like no one else when it comes to the patient experience. As a result of Colleen's three-and-a-half-year, groundbreaking research titled, The Patient Empathy Project℠, she has become a thought leader in patient centered care. Finding that 96% of people have some fear regarding healthcare, she coined the phrase 'clinicaphobia' to describe patient fears.

Sharing her simple, yet profound study, can transform an organizational culture. Colleen shares her patient fears postcard art study that was a result of asking people to share their greatest fear and concerns about hospitals, healthcare and doctors. The artwork provides a fascinating and shocking backdrop, prompting leaders and caregivers to take a new look at the patient, the care they deliver, and the financial impact it will have for them in the future.

Sweeney has developed a Patient Experience Pyramid to deliver the 'exceptional patient experience' based on the work of Abraham Maslow. Her Patient Experience Pyramid theorizes that recognition of patient's fears is the most basic need that must be addressed and satisfied before delivering the exceptional experience at the top of the pyramid.

Finally, Colleen will share a real world example of an organization that asked the question, recorded the answers, and addressed patient fears. The case study reveals their journey to patient satisfaction scores that would thrill any organization!

Keynote: Filling the Glass - Real World Tactics and Motivation for Increasing Productivity AND Job Satisfaction

In this high-energy, humor-rich presentation, Barry Maher offers the antidote to presentations that are simply “let’s all think happy thoughts and everything will be wonderful” fluff. It’s chock full of nuts and bolts content and straight-talk management and leadership tactics you can apply immediately. Yet it’s real-world motivational, even inspirational. Perfect for the most cynical veteran AND the most starry-eyed (or the most discouraged) novice.

• Jerry Colangelo, former owner of the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks says, “Packed with useful, practical advice, it’s also entertaining and frequently laugh out loud funny.”
• Meeting Professionals International adds, "Occasionally blunt, always honest . . . Maher helps us fill our own glass through a skillful mix of case studies, tips, tactics and hard headed, reality-based inspiration."

You may have seen Barry on the Today Show, CBS or CNBC. You may have read about him in USA Today, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal or Business Week. Now Barry Maher brings his real world tactics for increasing productivity AND job satisfaction to the 28th Annual PAHCOM Conference.

Discover with Barry:
• The power of a little incentive
• How to turn negatives into selling points, even bragging points
• Powerful and often neglected motivational strategies
• How to build instant rapport with people of all types
• Little differences that can make a huge difference
• The single most common (and probably most damaging) communication problem and how to overcome it
• And much, much more

By tapping in to your Emotional Intelligence, you’ll get enhanced cooperation from your team, learn how to overcome difficult behaviors and discover strategies to improve your relationships – resulting in a more productive team.

You’ll learn:
· The importance of emotional intelligence to enhance productivity and results
· Why certain emotions drive people to act and respond how they do

Keynote: Legendary Leadership- Why Be Great Once When You Can Be Great Forever?

Leadership begins with you but… it’s not about you. An effective leader influences others to BE more and to DO more, not for the benefit of the leader but for the benefit of those being led. Leaders don’t just impact their environments; they impact the people in their environments. The best leaders, the ones who create the biggest difference, the ones who leave the most lasting impressions, are the ones whose legacies exceed even their own lives.

Legendary leadership is an inside job. It requires us to look first at the mirror and focus on improving the one staring back. Based on the lessons learned by surviving a stroke, as well as utilizing practical concepts within one of the most unique and dynamic leadership development programs called Expect to Win, this interactive presentation incorporates small group discussion, thought-provoking content, and individual declarations. Those attending this presentation will gain clarity about who they are, confidence about what they stand for, and the commitment to let go of the things holding them back. This isn’t just a presentation providing more knowledge. This is a presentation encouraging participant transformation.

Any leader can be great once. Legendary leaders are great forever. Which one will you be?
