ICD-10 Introductory Class for Physicians, Coders, & Practice Managers
Orlando, FL
Presented by This class is co-sponsored by Orlando Health. In preparation for the transition to ICD-10, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is offering on-site field support training focused on small physician practices (including solo physician and rural practices). With assistance from physicians and industry leaders, CMS has developed trainings to help practices navigate the ICD-10 transition at no cost to you. We seek to participate with your scheduled meetings, events, and conferences. The sessions will provide insight on ICD-10 awareness, transition, project management and implementation, testing, documentations, tools, strategies, and education regarding CMS’ website for small physician practices — www.roadto10.org. The workshop will give you an understanding of the nature of ICD-10 and how to promote a positive implementation within your practice. The session will address several key questions. What is ICD-10 and how is it different from ICD-9? Why are there so many codes? Why is detailed documentation and coding necessary? How will ICD-10 impact my practice? What is the role of the physician and office practice manager in this transition? What do I need to do to prepare? How will ICD-10 help me move into a world of changing payment models? Where else can I find information and training? The session will also cover recommended actions to support a smooth transition for small physician practices. This training covers tasks practice managers may want to consider for a smooth and effective ICD-10 transition. What are the timelines? Where should I be? How do I build a strategy? What are the touch points? Who are the stakeholders? How do I engage them? How can I streamline this process and address business impacts? How do I empower my practice to ensure we make a smooth transition? Where else can I get assistance? * Please contact us if you need any special accommodations

ICD-10 Introductory Class for Physicians, Coders, & Practice Managers
Conway, SC
Presented by This class is co-sponsored by Conway Medical Center and the South Carolina Office of Rural Health.

Promoting Civility within the Workplace

Studies indicate that Americans view incivility in the workplace as a serious problem that is getting worse. In a recent survey, 64% of respondents said they were currently working with a bully and 94% indicated they had worked with a bully in the past. While a training program on workplace sensitivity and respect may seem extreme, the reality is insensitivity is an epidemic costing employers millions. The legal claims can range from harassment, workers’ compensation, and negligent supervision to infliction of emotional distress.
This session introduces the concept of management sensitivity, its importance to a company, and its effects. Skills needed to effectively practice civil behavior, as well as different ways organizations can leverage sensitivity for a competitive advantage will also be discussed.
Learning Objectives
• How to gain awareness and understanding of incivility within your organization
• Strategies to eradicate negative, hostile, and unequal treatment from your workplace and
• Implementing a civility policy

How to Exchange Health Information to Improve Care Transitions

Communication among providers about a patient can be difficult without a central repository for patient data. Lack of information can lead to errors or omissions in treatment, resulting in readmissions to the hospital or long-term care facility. This program will describe the types of patient information available through health information exchanges and show how increased access to patients’ clinical information fosters smoother transitions of care, especially in a post acute care setting.

Reimbursement Trends in a Post Health Care Reform World

The passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act has launched a dramatic shift in health care reimbursements for physicians. Who pays physicians, how they pay physicians, and what they pay physicians will fundamentally change over the course of the next few years. Concepts like Accountable Care Organizations, Tiered Networks, Episode of Care, and even Capitation are being implemented at a rapid pace. Medical practices need to fully understand how these reimbursement mechanisms work so they can develop effective strategies to deal with them. In this session, we will first examine the factors that are causing this tectonic shift in health care reimbursement. The presenter will describe each of these new concepts and show how physician groups can develop strategies to not only survive this wave of change, but succeed in these turbulent times.

Physicians Under Value Based Purchasing

Many medical offices have been immune to Value Based Purchasing as it has revolutionized how quality is measured for hospitals- but now they, too, are facing reimbursement changes under new quality indicators. This session will briefly describe Value Based Purchasing and what is getting measured, what the purpose of the initiative is, and what it is supposed to achieve. Most importantly, the program will address three practical things that all medical offices can do to adjust to a Value Based Purchasing era.
